ABB provides automation solutions for 10 GW renewable energy projects in India

ABB has provided an automation solution for a 10 GW renewable energy plant in India. Starting from a 100 MW project about seven years ago, the company has been using its IoT based PLC solution nationwide to serve over 300 renewable energy projects, reaching a milestone of 10 GW in cumulative service capacity.

ABB’s PLC based SCADA system helps collect and analyze real-time data to optimize factory operations and reduce maintenance. With it, operators can easily monitor and analyze key parameters of the factory, and obtain complete visibility of the factory’s operation. As part of ABB’s drive products, utility scale SCADA solutions help reduce the cost and investment risk of operating renewable energy plants.

Renewable energy applications typically require complex safety calculations as a large amount of information needs to be processed in order to safely monitor allowable ranges such as temperature and pressure. BESS plays a crucial role in balancing the intermittent availability of renewable energy, as it can respond to electricity demand through energy storage, ensuring a sustained and stable power supply. At the same time, it is necessary to implement safety monitoring for these complex renewable processes.

ABB’s network security SCADA system can use its AC500 PLC to monitor key parameters and adjust factory operations according to the guidelines of the Indian power grid regulations. It can also assist in generating customized reports containing the required analysis to meet various needs of renewable energy plants, including hybrid power plants composed of wind, solar, and BESS.
