According to news from Morro Batteries in Norway, on August 16th, the first gigawatt level lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery factory in Europe was completed and put into operation in the southern Norwegian city of Arendal.

Norwegian Prime Minister St ø ller attended the factory’s completion and commissioning ceremony. He stated that Norway is moving towards a zero emission society, and lithium iron phosphate batteries are an important part of Norway’s green transformation.

In recent years, Norway has vigorously promoted green transformation and has become one of the countries with the highest proportion of new energy vehicle sales in Europe. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are widely used in the field of new energy vehicles due to their low cost and high thermal stability.

It is reported that the lithium iron phosphate battery factory is built and operated by Morrow Batteries, with an annual output of up to 3 million lithium iron phosphate battery units and a total production capacity of 1GWh.

Since November last year, Morrow Batteries has produced and shipped thousands of samples of lithium iron phosphate batteries to potential customers. The company can now provide a commercially viable, thoroughly tested, and competitive lithium iron phosphate battery product.

Lars Christian Buckle, CEO of Morrow Batteries, stated that the factory has entered the trial production phase and will work closely with customers to debug production equipment, achieving quality standards for mass production in the coming months. It is expected to deliver the first batch of batteries to customers before the end of the year. The company also plans to build three more battery factories in the region in the future.

Battery Network has noticed that in addition to Morro Batteries, another lithium iron phosphate battery has started construction in Europe in July this year.

On July 8th local time, Far East Power held a groundbreaking ceremony for its battery super factory located in Navara de la Mata, Spain. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Chairman of Far East Technology Group Zhang Lei, and Chief Executive Officer of Far East Power USA and Europe Nord attended the ceremony.

Far East Power’s Spanish factory will develop and manufacture the latest generation of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery products, expected to be put into operation in 2026, making it the first super factory for lithium iron phosphate batteries in Europe. The factory will also rely on the construction of the first zero carbon industrial park on the European continent to create zero carbon battery products.

Prime Minister Sanchez stated that Far East is a global leader in green technology, innovating and creating advanced products and technologies in the fields of wind turbines, energy storage, batteries, green hydrogen ammonia, and new power systems. It has also pioneered the zero carbon industrial park model, laying the foundation for the construction of a global green industrial system. Farview is an important partner in Spain’s energy and digital transformation, helping Spain achieve its carbon neutrality goals.
